Nowadays it’s secondary to the league and most teams rest players, with the big guns almost putting out second string team. The replay was always a boost for weaker sides to either get a big pay day away at a big club or the glory of bringing a big club back for a home tie. The financial loss of these big pay days will not help lower league clubs, so perhaps the third round could be seeded so that if a non seeded team draws a seeded one, they get the choice of the tie being home or away.
