The Regulator
A few weeks ago, around the time of the Cardiff game, I submitted a FOI request to the Safety Advisory Group at Sheffield City Council requesting access to meeting minutes of the group dating back several years. I was hoping that this would shed some light of some of the seemingly excessive segregation and H&S measures we've had to endure at Hillsborough. The request was accepted but instead of receiving the requested minutes I received an email asking if a meeting with the chair of the committee would be a suitable alternative. I haven't replied to this email having been wrapped up in all things play-off related since then but I don't think that there was any time limit attached to the offer. I would find it tricky, though not impossible, to attend such a meeting and wanted to start this thread to ask 2 questions. First, does anyone local wish to throw their hat in the ring to take this forward and second, what questions specifically do we wish to be answered by the group. Mr Farrell
Why are they scared to realise the minutes ? Sod a meeting. Lets have the information released.
alanharper
You could just request the minutes instead, seeing as that was what you actually wanted. Sounds to me like there's stuff they'd rather you didn't see.

TrickyTrev
Very strange that they won't release these minutes, surely they don't have anything to hide. You should re-request these.

alanharper
I bet if you do get the minutes they'll be heavily redacted.
The Regulator
Right, that seems pretty conclusive. Watch this space!
matthefish2002
Did at first think what a boring request to read minutes of some dull meeting. But now seen as they clearly dont want you to see them I am really interested it what these say. Just tell them you are too busy to attend any meeting and seeing the minutes will be fine. StirlingOwl
FOI rules are changing shortly, so do it quickly as you will no longer be able to appeal to the information commissioner if you get knocked back.
mattitheowl
No meeting. Get the minutes. They'll just blind you with waffle in a meeting and you'll get nothing. Get the cold hard facts in writing. There's a reason they don't want to release them, lets find out what it is! Just not bothered...
Davetherave
This was a good and useful request to SCC ... and not before time too. It's all about Leppings Lane and the extremities of N and S stands. What was really sad to see recently was how little LL had changed since the film footage of 1989, with the exception of seats. I have to say there seemed some overflow or excessive crowding between LL and the N. stand at the Brighton game. No way were the fans sitting down or 1 to a seat space. I think the suggestions you have received already are useful. Get the minutes then a meeting, other wise the visit or time may given to complete BS, these people in the council are experts at this. Lastly can I politely ask why do you use the name The Regulator ?
The Regulator
Lastly can I politely ask why do you use the name The Regulator ? Of course. My job is related to the regulation of the financial services industry. I thought it had an air of mystery to it too!

LanceKeyring
Does SWFC recognise a trade union for its employees (apart from the PFA and LMA)? Under separate regulations (Safety Representatives and Safety Committees Regulations 1977) may have to be released to the health and safety representative. So it may be worth approaching the union as a alternative if the FOI fails.

StudentOwl
I think a meeting shows good intentions, but you requested the minutes so you should get the minutes. If after they do that, they still offer a meeting, then it might be good to do so. But minutes first, they need to be seen by all
Utah Owl
Keep up the good work and don't let them stall you or BS you. If necessary, go to the press with the findings.
Key
Ask for the minutes to be provided as requested - but note that the offer for a meeting between fans and SAG is a welcome one and should go ahead once the minutes have been read.
