Last night with CC and Bully

Recommended Posts

Afternoon all,

Attended a dinner last night where CC & Bully were present. All in all a good night, with questions and answers from those present. In summary here are some of the things Bully and CC had to say -:

CC - There is no stress in the team regarding Saturdays fixture. The team are ready to go.

Bully - We have better players than Cardiff.

Both mentioned the crowd and urging the fans to get behind the team even if things are going a bit pear shaped. They both stated that the team can and does react to the crowd.

Bully - Stated 'Big Dave' which is how he is known at the club, has embraced his role and has  accepted that it was difficult when he first got to the club. He did state that he is now a little bit wiser and cuter in regards to the Championship, and that he knows opposing managers really do not want to see his name on the team sheet. When asked who he would rather mark, Big Dave or Lucas, he very quickly said Lucas.

CC - Mentioned LJ being young, but impressed with how he has come along.

CC - Accepted that the start of the season was difficult, but also said that once all the players were in, he anticipated a finishing spot between 4th and 8th.

CC- Said he had not been approached by Swansea.

Bully - Mentioned overseas youngsters in the Academy, which is going well. Also mentioned in all age groups there are one or two in individuals who are playing well above their peer group level.

CC- Tellingly, he said that the club was behind in certain aspects of development. He mentioned training facilities, and stated that the Chairman would be addressing this, as well as stadium issues.

Bully - Praised all the coaching staff, and said he had learned a lot from the group. Singled out Andy Rhodes in particular being rock solid, and a great coach to have at the club.

CC- Mentioned the defeat at Bristol City. Said there were too many players not right, and when this is the case results like that happen. He did state that the team responded well to that defeat and reacted well in training.

CC- Said Burnley are the best team in the division, and the team he has been most impressed with.

It was clear from them speaking that they hold FF in really high regard, and are delighted he is at the club performing so well.

Much more was said, but in general terms, there was an air of confidence about them both, and they are confident of the team putting in a good performance on Saturday, and getting the right result.

OP, did Carlos mention systems and formations at all? Does he plan to stick with 4-4-2 next season?

No he didn't, but he did stress that a lot of time is spent looking at other teams threats/set pieces etc, and that he selects the team accordingly.

One thing I forgot to mention was the number of long range goals we have scored this season. CC said that it was something that was not practiced at all in training, but that the opportunities to shoot from long range during games was down to the work rate of the players, creating opportunities and the players having the confidence to shoot when they can.

Would prefer Burnley and Brighton to take the two automatic spots, but hopefully whoever misses out will be on a right downer with it being so tight up there.

You'd rather face the team that beat us twice, Boro, a team we couldn't touch on either occasion?

I'd rather Burnley and Boro go up

Brighton are obviously a very good side but I think they go about things in a similar way to us, quite an even match up

Exactly that. Burnley are a well-oiled machine. Gray and Vokes cause us problems. We couldn't get close to Boro when we played them. They'd brush us aside in the playoffs. Brighton are the ones we'd stand more of a chance against. Very evenly matched.

Away at borough we conceded in the first minute, weathered a storm and then grew to dominate the match.

I think we got pretty close to them.

Also we are definitely better then we were when we first played them and arguably better than the December encounter.

...and arguably they are no longer as assured as they were back then.
