How Many Houses Does The Club Own On Vere Rd?

We should forget all these plans and just move. Who works want to stay in a hotel at Hillsborough? Where will we park 500 cars next season when car park closes.

We need a stadium like Derby's to progress. Their corporate facilities are so far ahead of our it's untrue. Their concourses are designed to extract maximum money from fans. It's safer.

It's time for us to look to the future like our forefathers did when moving us to Hillsborough. Hillsborough is so far beyond its 'best before' date it's unreal.

Time to bid it a fond farewell

yes, yes we do. Our stadium will cost more to develop (and still have all the surrounding difficulties ie shitty location, poor traffic, poor parking) than building a purpose built one that will generate much more income.

we need to lose the blinkered view that our stadium should be a 23 day a year facility. It has to be much more than that in the modern age.

the New York Stadium in Rotherham generates a higher non-matchday income than ours which is 3 times bigger

There were plans for something similar back in the 60's - all that came to fruition was the North Stand.

Imaging that all the way round - it would have looked great then and good even now.

Nope, disagree.

With a bit of TLC Hillsborough could again become a fantastic venue.

- Extend concourses of North Stand and South Stand as per WC2018 plans.

- Knock down Kop and re-build from scratch - 10,000 seats with no restricted view.

- Knock down West Stand and re-build from scratch - 8,000 seats with no restricted view.

- Buy houses on Vere Road, Leppings Lane and Penistone Road and demolish

- Build over the River Don on west and east sides of ground

All that could be done cheaper that building a soulless bowl near Meadowhall.

And I did it on Paint so it's a piece of wee wee...

Its not as easy as 'buy the houses on Vere Rd'

Newcastle and Liverpool have been trying to 'buy the houses' on the roads that surround their stadiums for years.

Your Paint picture takes no consideration of the river, or the fact our ground is on a flood plain, or the fact our ground is in a shitty rundown area, with poor transport links, no parking etc etc etc.

And will people stop with the 'soulless bowl' argument

The iPro had plenty of 'soul' last weekend. Structures don't make soul - the people do.

I agree - I'd get rid of the corners too to provide some definition.

West Stand is top priority followed but the Kop - the other two shouldn't need too much

Houses on Vere Road etc... would be a bonus but not crucial.

It's been same location for over 100 years - not sure how it's suddenly a bad location now.

We can build river defences, tram links are good, we could ask for Wadsley Bridge station to be reopened if we start averaging 35,000+, build a motorway that goes straight from the M1 to the ground - the M1867.

Et voila.

When it was built - it was surrounded by - pretty much nothing. How it should be - when the new one is built

People didnt own cars.

Go and google 'Hillsborough' in images.

Thats another reason we should move.

So what location would you suggest that:

a. Isn't on a flood plain.

b. Has proper transport links.

c. Has space for parking.

d. Isn't in a run down area.

e. Would be cheaper than developing the existing ground.

I'm struggling to think of anywhere in the city boundaries that meets your criteria.

Been my argument for long enough now.

Thing is (and this isn't a dig) many of our fans have never experienced the home facilities at other grounds.

I remember going on the mop at Anfield about 10 years ago - bloody hell the concourse is massive, with loads of kiosks selling food / drink WHILST NOT FREEZING YOUR NACKERS OFF IN THE COLD.

I love Hillsborough, I live 10 minutes walk away so moving would mean travelling to a game. But it's way way below what we should have by way of facilities both inside and out.

Oh and as Grandad said - the soulless bowl rubbish - it's just that, rubbish.
