Blackburn vs The Owls. Official Matchday Thread.

Sheffield Wednesday’s back in town again!

TODAY’S OPPOSITES

Blackburn are a long established football club with a rich tradition. Like us, they have had their ups and downs. Recent history has been particularly cruel though. Despite being taken over by a wealthy Indian family and spending shed loads of money they were relegated from the Premier league in 2012.

In a desparate battle to stay up that season, the owners signed a new, unheard of goalkeeper. Known only as Rover, a name normally reserved for dogs, he came with a lifetime contract. Sensing an upturn in the club’s fortunes, the tormented but faithful fans snapped up the tickets for Rover’s debut. To their wide eyed surprise, the new shot stopper turned out to be a chicken!

Of course, it was an unmitigated disaster. Anything more than a waist high ball had the new keeper flapping hopelessly. It soon became obvious that the team were doomed. Some suggested that they might even have conceded less by not bothering to play with a goalie at all. Blackburn were duly relegated having gained the lowest number of points in their entire existence.

Blackburn entered the following close season determined to rebuild. Millions in parachute payments would ensure that solid signings could be made for a swift return to the top flight. Late that June, it was announced that Rover would also be in charge of transfer activity and for an undisclosed fee had already sourced the previously unknown free kick specialist and winger, Ken Tucky.

Five minutes into their first game of the new season, Blackburn were awarded a penalty after a handball fowl. Game on! The crowd roared as Tucky limbered up to the spot to take the kick but then suddenly wandered off in the opposite direction, scratching at the ground and clucking with glee as he found a corn seed nestling effortlessly in the grass. Someone else would have to step up and take the nerve wracking twelve yard shot on goal. They did. They missed.

The fans were furious. The board were forced to hold an inquiry. It later turned out that Rover and Ken Tucky were in fact related. Accusations of nepotism flew thick and fast. Both had previously worked laying eggs on a Venky’s factory farm in India and had no footballing experience whatsoever before being signed.

Blackburn soon came to the realisation that it would be a long, hard slog getting back out of the Championship and that’s how we come to be playing them today.

MATCHDAY FACTS

Blackburn could have Tom Lawrence fit for the visit of Sheffield Wednesday. Chris Taylor is set to play in attack if Lawrence does not recover from being pecked on both ankles, while boss Paul Lambert has no fresh injury concerns.

Wednesday will be without defender Sam Hutchinson as he sits out the second game of his two-match ban. Winger Modou Sougou will be hoping to feature after a shoulder problem but defender Michael Turner is not ready for first-team action.

• Rovers have won eight of their last 12 games against Wednesday at Ewood Park (D2 L2), though they've failed to win their last two.

• The Owls' 2-1 defeat by Blackburn in March is their only loss in their last five against their opponents (W2 D2).

• No Championship player has scored more goals as a substitute this season than Sheffield Wednesday's Lucas João (3).

• Jordan Rhodes has scored four goals in his last five appearances at Ewood Park, though he hasn't netted there for three games.

• Overall, Rhodes has 43 goals in 74 league appearances for Blackburn at Ewood Park (0.6 goals per game).

• The Owls have lost just one of their last 11 in league competition (W6 D4), though the loss was in their most recent away game against Charlton.

Their matchday thread, which compared to ours, is quite frankly rubbish, can be found here… http://www.brfcc.com/mb/index.php/topic/30824-sheffield-wednesday-preview/

My prediction: Owls are much harder than chickens so 2-1 to us. Joao and Fessi to score.

MINTYNESS

Taylor and her Giant Shadow Llama will be there to protect us at Ewood Park today…

Outstanding Pauli. I love Giant Shadow Llama. I always have.

Some cretin started another thread and stated that this was a "must win" game for us. Who was that? Oh yes, I remember; it was ME !

3-1 to the mighty Owls!

Play up Wednesday!

Come on you Blue and White Wizards!!!

Bugger. How did this get posted in the Dressing Room?

I suspect fowl play  ;-)

Be a tough game this with Lambert bringing new manager syndrome.

Don't think we'll lose, though. Happy with a pointif ti comes to that  but confident we'll snag all 3.
