PeteG_1984
Nah, just loan players out to lower league clubs, if that start doing well take them back or cash in. Bit like what we've been on the receiving end of in last few years.
S36 OWL
May sound ridiculous at this stage, but when DC leads us to an inevitable promotion within the next couple of seasons, would there be scope to have a Wednesday 'B' team playing in a league such as the Northern Premier or maybe even higher, such as the conference.. we have something like 40+ pros on our books and that number won't go down anytime soon. This U21 development league is quite frankly a bit of a joke, so why not in years to come have a B team plays in a more competitive level week in week out? Of course our 'A' team need to establish themselves among this British and European elite first. Give it time. This thread is a slight exaggeration however I do see this as the way forward. It works in Spain, and will only benefit the English national team. We already have a B team ................... Roovvrum
thebrap11
You'd also have sides like Chelsea who would, within a few years, have their 'A' and 'B' sides in the Premier League. They have a similar set up in Spain but B teams can't get promoted even if they win the league. A fink
Guest ka58
There was a system that worked for years - it was called the reserves. A mixture of seasoned pros and kids who were able to bridge the gap between junior teams and the full side as a consequence. But for some reason everyone binned that - so now everyone has development squads - kicking a ball about on training pitches against other kids - whilst pros have a day off if not selected. One of the main contributory factors to the sh ite development of players in this country.

A fink cant play in the same division as the 1st team .......and cant play in the copa del rey (FA cup) after the fiasco of when real madrid played there B team in the final . If the TOP TOP clubs like Chelsea and Arsenal aren't doing it who have in excess of 50+ players that don't train with "first teamers" between 17-21 that in theory could be playing for a "B" team in a lower league, then its never going to happen for clubs in England. Plus the fact its allowed in Spain and Germany don't highlight the fact how the English leagues manipulate the loan system, Chelsea have something like 33 players loaned out this season? Not all in lower English leagues but some are, what would be the point in simply creating a B team when they can go on loan to other clubs that want there players or simply play in a development league of a high standard anyway? Creating a B team would be counterproductive considering most clubs with the financial capability already have a development squad and loan players out, would creating a separate B team really be more beneficial? No, probably not.
trevdi9
as stated in a couple of other posts the reserve team structure worked quite well kept players sharp as they played more or less every week ,instead of kicking there heels around this devlopement rubbish ,the old central league was very good ,but hey ho things move on for better or for worse ,

Buxtongent
Don't forget- the old Central League esisted in the days BEFORE substitutes, when, if a player was injured , he came off and you were down to TEN men.Players didn't warm the subs bench, and certainly didn't get a chance of any time on the field unless they were in the starting line-up. TomtheOwl95
No No No, as someone said before the system isn't in place and for very good reason. The b team system would not work in this country at any level. It works in places like Spain and Germany because they don't have very competitive lower divisions. Guest Mickey Matn
Plymouth Argyle "reserves" play in the South West Peninsular League division one this season. They tried it a few years ago to, but as someone upthread said the "amateur" players kicked lumps out of the PAFC kids.
