Ronnie Starling
I hear Matt Burton and Nev Burbeary have left the academy and could be off to the darkside. Is it a good thing or bad thing after all we haven't exactly produced much over the years to get a new team in to start improving the production line at the academy? StudentOwl
It's a shame but not the end of the world. Depending on how long they've been with us we could be getting quite a decent windfall that we can inject back into the academy, which is only a good thing. There are still plenty of decent players knocking about, it's been a few years since the changes to the academy started so we should start seeing the fruits of those labours in the next couple of years

Then again maybe the new regime may be pleased that they have moved on if they have better people ready to come in.

Sonny
Time for the committee to step up then, although the coaches leaving could have come from them in the first place. Who knows.

malek
As far as I know Ramsdale, Haslam and Wragg are running our academy for some time, now. Not 100% on this, though.

Thats the u16s upwards though. Burton was responsible for u5s to u11s and Burbeary was responsible for u12s to u14s with Ramsdale overseeing the whole of the academy. Ronnie Starling
They need to improve things across the board though. There has been no continuity of coaches over the years. A lad I was talking to recently bemoaned the goalkeeping coaching with numerous coaches coming and going and keepers having to warm themselves up at academy games whilst watching other teams having a coach warm up their keepers and provide feedback during games. They went months without a coach at one point.

Geohay
I was at the academy as a 'Keeper years and years ago. Kevin Pressman used to come and do coaching with us! He was still in the first team during the Premiership days, it was very inspiring for me as a young Wednesday fan. Martin Hodge was the coach at the time too. Great personality, but a lazy sod! That's why KP used to come in a do some more active training with us!

We have strong keepers through all age groups and a kid at 11s who every club in the country would take and are aware of. I do understand what your friend was saying on match days other clubs do seem to have a specialist keeper coach for every age but don't forget up until last couple of months out academy has been run on a shoestring. From what I have seen and heard improvements in facilities and staff are all part of chansiris club development plans. I think these departures will be insignificant in the grand scheme of things and are just making way for a bigger and more exciting future. Ronnie, I heard exactly the same thing from a UEFA B GK coach that I know well, one of the young keepers down there pays him for weekly one 2 one sessions as the amount of dedicated GK coaching he gets from the club is nowhere near enough for what they should be getting. It's all changed in the last couple of years. Edited September 3, 2015 by Stockyowl
Ronnie Starling
It is strange when you consider Wildsmith, Dawson and before that O'Donnell have come through. Surely though all these coaches that are / have been at the academy are capable of putting on a goalkeeping session for an hour of each training session but it seems as though it was beneath some if them to do it. I wonder if those boxes that were ticked now require some substance.
