Who owns Vere Road... and why?

Recommended Posts

Private Eye has done a survey of all the UK properties owned by companies registered abroad (and potentially not paying tax) All well and good for the likes of london. But it turns out - most (but not all) of Vere Road (the back of the North) is owned by

Proprietor

PERRANDALE LIMITED

Country

ISLE OF MAN

Date registered

24/12/2008

Price paid

£3,000

title

SYK544313

Properties

3, to 17 (inclusive), 39 to 71 (inclusive) and 10 to 74 (inclusive), Vere Road, Sheffield, S6 1SB

Has this name come up ever before? Is it someone blocking/hoping for our ground to expand into that space?

Without looking too deep into it - the price paid suggests its the freehold reversion interest and perhaps the properties are all on long leasehold

Paul Aldridge ;-)

if you look at the date though says 2008 - pre PA

Only reason I can think of why anyone would buy residential property in Hillsborough.

I'd assume  they hold the freeholds of the leasehold houses on Vere Road, this is commonplace in Sheffield.  They probably dirive a fairly minimal ground rent from the houseowners?

Wrong company. This one is registered on the Isle of White, not the Isle of Man. Could be a link though.

No, I meant the one Dunsby posted is on the IOW, and according to the OP, the company is on the IOM.

I live on Vere Road and pay £1.50 ground rent per year.

Not to anyone in IOM or IOW though.

The River House, Ramsey is B&B run by a couple called Edward and Adrienne.

Checked on my Land Reg log on - it is the freehold reversion to some of the properties. £3,000 suggests that the leases are very long, hence the cheap price.

Lots of companies specialise in buying the freehold (this case for £3,000) and then send letters to each individual house owner saying they can be their part of the freehold for £2,000 plus legal fees. Only need 3 or 4 to say yes to start making money one it.
