February 18th 2012...Where It All Began...

Recommended Posts

actually began 21st feb when we signed antonio on loan -that made the biggest difference imo

The derby day victory gave the team the belief.

Antonio made the difference in terms of sheer class at that level.

DJ coming in and going to a wide, attacking, flowing style of football was the blueprint that meant we kept winning.

Llera's contribution as the embodiment of what the team and - more importantly - the fans believed we could achieve should also never be forgotten.

But yeah, it's all because little Cheddy went to prison...

I was in Edinburgh that day on a stag do when a grunter I know sent me a 'mind the gap' text.

The same guy had text me a few days before when we lost to Stevenage and they beat huddersfield with a 'there's only one Danny Wilson'.

He who laughs last laughs loudest I suppose.

What reminded me that it was *this* day was my Timehop back to my Facebook status that Saturday teatime:

"I don't have any Blades amongst my Facebook friends, so I don't know whether this message will ever get through. But despite your clear joy at what you perceive to be your superiority over us this season, it's not the end of the season and you're still all c**ts. And your parents are c**ts. And your children are c**ts. Unfuckinglucky."

Absolutely brilliant! I'd pretty much accepted the playoffs by that point, but our form from then to the end of the season was sensational and the Blades simply cracked under the relentless pressure.

On an unrelated note, can I just ask how you created such a large image? I was trying to do something similar recently and had to post 3 separate images one under the other.

It is because gary megson signed Antonio. He would've done same as that useless get Dave Jones and played Antonio wide. The derby win was the catalyst for me and the Antonio signing. Pigs had the stuffing knocked out of them because of that, and then they had the Ched issue.

If we talk about us as a group of fans, then yes, we believed obviously.

Dave Jones just grabbed on to our coat tails in one hand and his pay packet in the other.

The run after the Derby was so far apart from anything I've experienced whilst watching the owls. The way we just kept relentlessly putting teams to the sword one after the other was incredible. Had some superb away days during that run- with the brentford game obviously been the highlight and potentially my favourite of all time.

Would we roger. Under DJ we actually killed teams off rather than holding onto nervy one goal leads like we did on several occasions under GM. Under DJ we were a different side.

We were at a wedding in Glasgow the day we played away at Brentford, the pigs game was straight after ours, they were home to Stevenage. During our game, me and Nick took turns nipping out every 5 minutes to text mates for the score. We won at Brentford through goals by Treacey and Llera.  I still felt we had left it too late and the Blunts wouldn't slip up. When Stevenage went 1-0 up, it was too much for us both to take, we both had our phones under the table frantically texting for updates.  During one of many speeches from the main table Stevenage went 2-0, me and Nick couldn't take it, we both let out a load shout of "yes" the room went quiet while everyone looked at us, I apologised for our outburst stating Stevenage were 2-0 up, no one had a clue about the significance, my wife gave us both a ticking off. The rest of the game was torture, we were getting updates that United were all over Stevenage, it was only a matter of time before they scored, and I knew, if they got one, they'd probably get two, or three. When United equalised, me and Nick both had to leave the room, we couldn't stand it. I was texting my mate Dave Oxley, he was giving me a running update, but the bar steward is a real wind up merchant, he told me United had got the winning goal with the final kick of the ball. I started to make my way back to the table when I spotted Nick jumping up and down uncontrollably, I knew then my mate had been winding me up and United had fecked it up again.

Just a bloke, who used up all his luck in one go when he met his wife.
