Happy Gray Day, Everyone!

Recommended Posts

It's exactly a year to the day since Stuart Gray was appointed as Wednesday head coach on a permanent basis, following our 2-1 victory over Rochdale in the cup.

Most of us assumed he'd just have the job on a temporary basis until a 'big name' manager could be brought in, and many of us were wary of employing Gray permanently even though he'd massively improved our results during his seven week stint as caretaker manager. The names being bandied around by fans at the time included Warnock, Evans and Holloway.

Now, a year and 47 Championship games later, we've won 17, drawn 13 and lost 17, giving Gray a 36% win ratio in the league since taking the reigns full time; we sit 9th in the Championship table, 10 points off the playoffs and 14 points above the relegation zone; and our team is arguably in the best shape it's been since the days of Whelan and Brunt.

We've had a year of steady progress under Gray's stewardship: we've gone from relegation certainties to play-off outsiders; the players have been galvanised in to one of the hardest-working outfits in the Championship; and we have players that Premier League clubs are reportedly interested in signing. If we continue in the same vein, the only way is up.

Whatever the reasoning behind his appointment at the time, we should thank our lucky stars we ended up with Gray rather than of any of the other managers mentioned above!

Happy Gray Day, as such.

It was a great inspired choice of MM's    actually SG gave him no choice with  a superb turnaround of squad morale and crucially after being priced out of evans and thankfully neshing warnock

for those that missed it here is the talksport interview after the sacking of DJ

The best thing about SG's appointment is where we are in the Table at the moment. If it had been Fat Boy Evans,we'd be in the bottom 3 right now.Let's just sit back and enjoy Fatty Evans making a right dogs dinner of Roverhum staying in the Championship. :stuwinky:  lol

He's been an excellent appointment.

I don't think it's a time for pointing fingers at those who wanted alternatives, though. We've been down the road of appointing existing back room staff before and it didn't work. We've also had some calling for caretakers to be given permanent positions before (Sean McAuley, anyone?) when those in the know warned it would be a mistake.

Don't forget, this time last season we were still in an absolute state as well. Hesitation about Gray was understandable, as was wanting someone with more of a track record.

He's done brilliantly since though. Full credit where it's due. Wouldn't have it any other way at the moment and he's done an incredible job.

Gray is the best description for his tedious dull football.   Hope we get taken over soon and they bring their own man

in.  Yes we are in a decent league position, but it's due to not losing rather than winning.  He's not as good as Brentford's

manager!!!!!

I think somebody's a bit jealous because they're not the only misspelled colour in the village anymore!
