Pompeyowl
When did we last have one? I know Steve Maclean was close to that mark in the promotion season of 2004/05, but how many did he actually get? If he wasn't last, was Hirsty the last to bag 20 in a season? How many 20 goal a season strikers do you remember?

Dutch McLovin
Mellor and Maclean both got 20 in all competitions an Madine got 18 I think. In the league will be Hirsty. We've been craving one for years. I am hoping Keane could be the one, get him going this year sign him perm in summer then next year he's the man. If we can get him some supply that is
Pompeyowl
Completely forgot about Mellor. Also hadn't realised Madine got so many either. It's a shame his behavioural problems seemed to derail any momentum he had.

Geörge Whitebread
Top Scorer's in each season in all competitions (league only)... 14/15: Nuhi - 7 (Maguire/May - 5) 13/14: Maguire - 10 (9) 12/13: Antonio - 9 (8) 11/12: Madine - 18 (18) - PROMOTED 10/11: Mellor - 20 (13) 09/10: Tudgay - 10 (10) 08/09: Tudgay - 14 (14) 07/08: Burton - 9 (7) 06/07: Maclean - 13 (12, joint with Burton) 05/06: Brunt - 7 (7) 04/05: Maclean - 20 (18) - PROMOTED 03/04: Ndumbu Nsungu - 10 (9) 02/03: Sibon - 9 (Kuqi - 8) 01/02: Sibon - 13 (12) 00/01: Sibon - 15 (13) 99/00: De Bilde - 11 (10) 98/99: Carbone - 9 (8) 97/98: Di Canio - 14 (12) 96/97: Booth - 13 (10) 95/96: Hirst - 13 (13) 94/95: Bright - 11 (11) 93/94: Bright - 19 (19) 92/93: Hirst - 12 (11, joint with Bright) 91/92: Hirst - 18 90/91: Hirst - 32 It's interesting to note that on the two occasions since leaving the top flight that we've had anyone score more than 15 in the league, we've been promoted!
SheffieldOwl47
In my eyes, if we are in championship next season, then May will definately be close to 20.
matt68owls
that list makes some depressing reading. if I remember correctly we had 5 players score 10 goals or more in the 83/84 season, oh for another season like that.
Pompeyowl
That's quite depressing. People continuously speak about getting a 20 goal a season striker. Some of the better teams have players that get 30 / 40 a season, and we used to be one of those teams!
Geörge Whitebread
Chicken and Egg. Promotion Winning Season = Top Scorer with more than 15 league goals Top Scorer with more than 15 league goals = Promotion Winning Season Maybe Will Keane will score 15 in the last 20 games! Guest Frickley Owl
I remember being confident at the start of the 94 season that Brighty would top 20 and we would win the league, and showing people how god like he was in my sticker album. mosleyowl
In a good season in the Championship, there will be about 5 20+ goal strikers. Last season ; Ross McCormack Leeds United 28 Jordan Rhodes Blackburn Rovers 25 Troy Deeney Watford 24 Lewis Grabban AFC Bournemouth 22 Danny Ings Burnley 21 Chris Martin Derby County 20 Dave Nugent Leicester City 20 Sam Vokes Burnley 20 It's no surprise that the top clubs are the ones with the 20 goal strikers, but they've got them because they can afford it. Who of those could we afford, and would we have the ammunition to supply them? 20 goal strikers don't often come as half season loans, and less often to teams who do t create mountains of opportunities. It takes more than a striker to get a 20 goal striker.
FlyingOwl
I still can't believe Mellor got 20 in that poo poo season. Wasn't he injured for a couple of months as well, or at least one month? Testament to how good a striker he was at that level I suppose. Shame he had to retire early. It's a shame his behavioural problems seemed to derail any momentum he had. Madine, like Mellor (and Maclean come to think of it) also had a lengthy spell on the sidelines if I remember rightly. Madine missed a good three or four weeks I think.

Paolo Coopio
Mellor got two hatricks in a couple of weeks didnt he? Also, cant believe MacLean scored 13 in 06/07. Didnt he trigger some clause in his contract and he couldn't play? I remember something going on with the board when he got sold. In our playoff season, he got injured in the Donny Rovers game at the start of March, so missed a good few months. We all know what happened in the game he came back
