Just a reminder that Sterland,McCalliog,Curran,Smith legends of yesteryear as well as some of the class of 1991 Turner,Shirtliff,King & Hirst and others will be in Hillsborough on the 27th.

Dublin City Council & Maureen O'Sullivan TD(MP) have agreed to a plaque being placed on the house Patrick was reared in.

To highlight the project in Belfast plans are in place for a spectacular cross community mural close to the Belfast Celtic Museum that will tell Patrick's story including a feature on his time @ Wednesday.

Our group has been invited to meet the Lord Mayor of Dublin this Thursday - the Lord Mayor hails from the same area of Dublin Patrick came and it is hoped he will also support the idea of a plaque being placed at Patrick's house in Dublin.

The Irish Independent(Irish nationwide paper) went with a feature today about Patrick and the project.......

Attached is a picture of former Barcelona President Josep Sunyol - Mr. Sunyol was the man who brought Patrick to Barcelona in 1935.

In 1936 Sunyol was arrested by Francoist troops in the Sierra de Guadarrama and was then executed.[1] His body was only exhumed in the 1990s after a Els Amics de Josep Sunyol (The Friends of Josep Sunyol) campaigned for FC Barcelona to recognize the 60th anniversary of his death.

This is just one interesting piece in the story of Patrick O'Connell....tickets still available.

In the words of Ian Brown(Stone Roses) 'We've gone continental........"smiley2.gif

Thank you AFP international news agency - headline reads...

'Rescue from oblivion O'Connell, Irish legend Betis and Barca'

In the words of a song by Peter Gabriel  recorded for a civil rights activist -

'You can blow out a candle

But you can't blow out a fire
Once the flames begin to catch....'

Strandville Junior Team Dublin, Belfast Celtic, Sheffield Wednesday, Hull City, Manchester United, Rochdale, Clapton Orient, Dumbarton and Ashington.

I note that these clubs all have some association with the fund, along with the Spanish clubs he managed. I also see that as the dinner has been called off, Wednesdayite have admirably donated £1000.00 to the cause.

Can I ask, what donations has the cause received from the other clubs listed, or their fans groups? Or indeed the Spanish clubs that he managed?

How much have you raised to date? How close are you to your required total?
