Guest DubOwl
One of our guests on the night will be former Owl Jim McCalliog who made 150 apps for Wednesday between 1965 and 1969 playing in the 1966 FA Cup Final. Jim is looking forward to returning to his old stomping ground. Whilst an Owl Jim was part of that famous Scottish 1967 team that beat then World champions England @ Wembley. He scored the third goal in a famous 3-2 victory below Jim signs a donated 1967 Scotland shirt which has also been signed by goalscorers Denis Law(ex Man United) and Bobby Lennox(ex Celtic). This is one of the shirts up for auction as part of this event. Jim will also be signing our Wednesday legends shirt on the night. http://www.wednesdayite.com/index.php/services/wednesdayite-events/item/1726-poc-event-feb15

Guest DubOwl
To this day Mr. Patrick O'Connell lies in an unmarked grave - the funds target is to raise £5k to have the grave and surrounding area cleaned,to pay for stone work and a headstone and to keep the grave maintained. We have had a very successful event in Seville pre Xmas @ Real Betis FC and there will be one in Manchester in April and in Belfast in August. The night will hopefully bring football people and fans together from the clubs involved in the story and highlight this project. As Wednesday are as much a part of this story as the teams in Spain and in Manchester we felt it only right to have this night. The National Football Museum, the PFA,SWFC, England 66,Wednesdayite,the English FA have all got behind the project hopefully your members here on Owlstalk will do so also. When every Sunday is a super one and where football clubs have turned into millionaires playthings is it much to ask for a man who gave so much to football? Guest Johnbloodaxe
So sad to see that, hopefully this will be a sell out event and will help to raise the necessary funds. A real part of our history, we forget about our great players and how little reward and recognition they sometimes get.

nevthelodgemoorowl
Thanks for your efforts DubOwl. The good old days nostalgia is alive and well, this is a chance for our fans to show practical support for a former player by attending the event, mixing with some of the giants of the game and raising some funds for the grave restoration project. Guest DubOwl
To be honest as a Dubliner it has been a pleasure to work on this project, thanks for your kind words. Attached is a piece about Patrick from the 1900's from the Yorkshire Weekly Record during the summer. The journalist, Bruce Campbell, was a Scottish sportswriter who worked for the Sheffield Telegraph and its sports special, the Green’Un. Last Friday the National Football Museum in Manchester(President Sir Bobby Charlton, vice president Sir Alex Ferguson & Sir Trevor Brooking) agreed to induct Patrick into a permanent section of the museum for players who played in Britain and played/managed abroad - Patrick's story,International Cap from a century ago & photo(we hope to include one from Wednesday historians John Brodie's collection) and a piece on this project will be put on display. Patrick will join the likes of John Charles,Denis Law,Bobby Robson,Gary Lineker and others in this section - I worked with Alex Jackson and Andrew Wilsdon from the museum. On Wednesday(21st) night a couple of us from this project have been invited to the Irish Parliament by TD Maureen O'Sullivan to discuss the idea of having a plaque placed in Dublin on the house Patrick was reared in close to Croke Park. It is hoped following the meeting Cllr Ciaran Cuuffe will table a motion to the city council. We have contacted the office of Wednesday fan the Rt. Hon. David Blunkett for support and the project has been endorsed by Glenda Jackson MP for North London (location of grave) and Paul Maskey MP for West Belfast(location of Belfast Celtic Museum). http://www.wednesday...poc-event-feb15
