Binky Griptite
I thought it was a dive from the first angle but a stonewaller on the replays, can understand why the ref didn't give it but can equally be angrymad that he didn't.
Bluesteel
our foolish fans call a pen for anything, however, than was nailed on! Our fans? How about football fans in general
Guest Sheff Owl
Maguire is his own worst enemy. He often throws himself in order to get decisions. It was a pen BUT he also tried to be clever.
Bluesteel
Refs should be looking at the ball not whether a player flails a bit
Guest Sheff Owl
Incorrect. With all the diving cheats around the refs have to look at both.
DuncOwl
Oi, over here! There's a chance to have a dig at Maguire... Let's get involved. Some of our fans are more see through than a stripper's knickers.

Bluesteel
Incorrect. With all the diving cheats around the refs have to look at both. Incorrect If the ref looks at whether the player wins the ball or catches the man he will spot the dive.
Guest Sheff Owl
Incorrect. A retired ref was talking recently saying that the refs look out for simulation and players who have a history of it.
Garry Powell
may have exaggerated it , but when its the premier league or foreign player all we hear from pundits and managers is he felt the contact and was justified in going down. when its us its a case of he was looking for it. double standards

Roscoe P. Coltrane
Sure I remember one of the sky pundits the other week saying if a player feels contact they've got every right to go down! WTF
zakswfc
It was a penalty but it wasn't given because it was the intention of McGuire to go down the minute he sees the challenge coming in.
darra
the reaction of the huddersfield played showed he knew he'd commited the foul
Ronio
challenge was made in the 85th minute, while the game was still at 0-0. Ref clearly bottled making the decision. For those saying Maguire simulated his dive, I can guarantee that if Maguire was completely taken out by their player, we still wouldn't have been given a pen. We don't get pens,
Guest Sheff Owl
Maguire has been booked for simulation before and the refs know the players who do it and look for it. It was a pen but Maguire doesn't help himself sometimes with the way he tries to force it.
trevdi9
pen all day long doesent take much to send a player over when moving forward and the huds player made no contact with the ball either , Ref bottled it ,

Bluesteel
So a ref judges a player by reputation rather than what happens? A retired ref may say that but it doesn't make him correct and nor does it make you correct. It was a foul and he along with his linesman should be capable of watching whether a defender takes the ball or th man.
