Part timers

Recommended Posts

Is anyone else getting really fed up of people coming on owlstalk/radio sheffield saying "I haven't been to the game, but from what I can tell from the commentary..." You haven't seen what happened, so how can you can't comment on it? If you can't afford/work Saturdays then that's fine, your still a follower, but please don't comment on stuff you haven't actually seen

There's loads who have always got an opinion on Wednesday claiming they're great fans but hardly ever go.

Different excuse every time some of them, I'm skint (night before they're posting on facebook that they're going out on wee wee), I'm not going because I've got headache, it's freezing, we never beat Watford, don't like manager and so on......

If you can't go because you're working or on low income with family priorities then fair doo's but to say this player and that player is crap when you don't even go then wee wee off.

We have an unbelievable amount of part timers.

But, if you are a part timer you are not as bothered as the main fan base. That's a fact, so they need to have more to entice them to the game.

The price is far far far to much for someone who isn't that bothered (it's far to much for people that are by the way)

The product on offer isn't great.

The lack of new signings doesnt help.

This is only going to get worse until we have a change of attitude at the top.

surely if a player is crap it doesnt matter whos been or not..

But how do they know they're crap if they've not seen them play?

They can't rely on what's said on here, I think Mattock is a very good defender whilst some others on here think he's crap.

Same people who said Alan was keeping 5,000 away.....but when he's gone, we'll be back they said.

Our support isn't anything special, other than the hard core season ticket holders, the walk up is poor

Unfortunately many of our fans are still stuck in the 90's thinking we should be competing with Chelsea, Man City and the like.

Totally deluded.

Equally, our match day experience is still stuck in the 90's too.

We've been here before...

Like it or not, people like to go to a match with at least the expectation that their team will win.

Until that happens, people have got surer things to spend their cash on.

Well pigs have a good chance of winning most weeks so lets get relegated again so we can win a few more.

If you dont go for financial/work reasons fare enough but dont get on here or praise & grumble to say how crap we are or how crap we have played when really you have no idea as didnt see it with your own eyes.

Those that dont go as we dont win every week well get un-workable of to City its not hours away and at least you will see goals every home game.

I agree with the OP, but there are also plenty of people go to the match (or say they have) and still talk rubbish.

You can listen to the commentators, watch what highlights there are and listen to and read the opinions of those who you trust and those you don't and you can balance all these things off to form a view of how things are. If you go to the matches you have more information on which to base your opinions but it doesn't necessarily mean your opinions are more valid. My wife could go every week and still not have a sensible comment to make.

I work so many weekends now with my new job, I probably try to make 10 games a season, mainly away games, but try at least to go to 3 home games a season mainly due toothed distance and cost of making a home game for me I really wish it could be more. I'm going Saturday though can't wait

I always love these debates so I can give you a balanced one from both sides of the fence!

From 1988 to end of 2013 season, I had a season ticket and got in 30-40% of away games most of those seasons as well. I have clearly spent thousands and thousands on watching Wednesday over this time. In the last 5 years I have run my own business which is a 24/7 business and very time consuming. I also have 2 young girls. The oldest had a season ticket with me in the 2012/2013 season and enjoyed it BUT added to the expense.

This season and last I have not had a season ticket but probably got in 50% of the games at home, indeed picking and choosing the best ones and those I thought we would win. Its not particularly a money thing but because I have simply got fed up of spending my hard earned money watching poo poo. Lining the pockets of a club that simply gives nothing back. It doesn't serve up good football, the atmosphere inside the stadium is dead, and the whole matchday experience is garbage. I can now spend most Saturdays either working and earning more money to give my family a better life style, or spend a day out with the family. This is more important that watching the dross at S6.

Now I was going to get a half season ticket this season but decided totally against it. Until things change at S6 and people keep their promises, I will continue to pick and choose games, which are getting less and less.

Now does this make me a part timer? Yes of course it does. But I think my previous 25 years experience give me a slight edge over the part timer status, many of you probably weren't even born when I started watching Wednesday lol. Still I am only 35 so hopefully at some point soon, I can hope for another 25 year run of season tickets and away days BUT until things change it ain't happening. Crap football, crap atmosphere, crap matchday experience = total crap.

It's weird, when I was living in Sheffield, as a spectacle, the football was crap, but out of habit, I always had a season ticket. Now I'm out of the habit and I won't do stuff I don't enjoy. Away games are more fun, though harder to get tickets for, so I tend to do more of them. It's particularly difficult to get enthusiastic about home games at this moment, the entertainment and atmosphere aren't exactly selling it. I'm surprised crowds have held up in the way they have

3 goals at home in the league and one of those a big deflection. Hillsborough is very low entertainment and zero atmosphere.

I pick and choose. I was offered a free ticket Saturday and turned it down.

I'm going against Rotherham but simply because it's a night out after the game with the lads

Your attitude stinks

You're not a supporter i'd struggle to call you a fan

I know people who would break a leg to go even if they knew we would get battered but haven't the scratch so can't and you turn down freebies

I can understand if people have to work on Saturdays or they feel prices are too high but I have to say I still enjoyed the game on Saturday. I am slightly surprised people are saying they are not coming anymore as the football is rubbish, it is not particularly better or worse then it has been for about 15 years.

Deep down the true fans yearn for the part timers to come.

It really depresses them watching poo alone in an awful atmosphere knowing they've paid cash for the privilege while part timers are enjoying something better.

This thread should be called ' please come back part timers and share our martyrdom and misery'.
