Gray has been with Jones too long. Jones talked about square pegs in round holes – Gray is playing players out of position Jones wanted two fast wingers to get down the flanks and cut inside – Gray is playing Mags on the wrong wing. Its not working. Our play ONLY comes from the wing and its achieving nothing. Jones said that he wanted to play the same players every game to maintain consistency – Grey said the same, only he keeps changing his starting 11. Jones stuck with Bothroyd for far too long when it was obvious he needed dropping – You guessed it, Grey is doing the same. Grey is a great coach, but it ends there. Swiss Toni Posted October 22, 2014 Share Posted October 22, 2014 Maghoma isn't playing out of position when that's the position he played for Burton the season before we signed him. The only problem with Maghoma is that I think he's trying to do the things he did in League Two in The Championship where opposition defences are much stronger and savvier. He needs to go back to basics a little and just try getting to the by-line and crossing it. If he can't do that then he needs to be dropped because it's getting frustrating to watch week on week. What does he offer defensively to be put in the middle of the park? Especially when we're already struggling to win the ball in their and retain it. Nuhiu and Madine are as much of a muchness although you get more work-rate our of Nuhiu which is why he gets to start more often than not. I don't think you can compare Gray to DJ. If you actually sit near to Gray which I do then you can hear him yelling at players (Jacques more often than not) to do this and that and the players generally just aren't up to it. He's always telling them to increase the tempo too but more often than not if falls on deaf ears but at least he's trying to affect a game. On Saturday every time Westwood got the ball Mattock was free and Gray was yelling at him to speed it up with his distribution but Westwood would just put his hand up to Gray in acknowledgement yet do nothing.
