Chris Maguire

Recommended Posts

Didn't get to too many games last year but seen us half a dozen times this season (3 on tv) ,I was very interested to see if Maguire  has improved as much as our fans were telling me.

Sorry to say this but I don't think he isn't  good enough, ok he works hard and shows the odd glimpse of true skill but his passing is truly awful

even the simplest 5 yard pass goes astray, yesterday in my opinion he was especially poor and yet he looks totally bewildered when his number is held up!

Am I being over critical or are others seeing something I am not?

He was our best player last season, scored some crucial goals. Don't slate him just yet, he hasn't hit the heights of last season, but other players are doing the business.

He was a lot better last season. He's not turned up this season so far

This, in a nutshell. Hopefully he can get back to his best soon, as he was a real threat during the second half of last season.

In his defence, although it's clearly not working for him at the moment, he's not hiding at all: he still wants the ball and is still one of our hardest-working players. I don't think it's a coincidence that we saw his best form when he was linking up with Lee either.

Still unsure of his best position to get the most out of him. Suspect he's ideally a no.10, but with May and Nuhiu in the side he can't play there. I don't think dropping Nuhiu and pushing Maguire up there would work; we'd have no physical presence up top.

I think that's one problem we've had over the last couple of seasons with players like Maghoma, Maguire & JJ. They all play between the lines and vied for the same role, but don't naturally settle into any position.

For me Maguire is being played out of position so shouldn`t be judged too harshly. When he came back into the fold last season he probably came as a shock to the opposition coaches.  This season he is being doubled up on and this is leading to him being frustrated and trying too hard when he does get a sight of goal .

All season I have been amazed that someone as astute as SG has not swopped wingers during the game very often , Maguire / Palmer spend most of there time going down the outside whilst Maghoma spends his time going inside( often losing the ball in the process) and ignoring the the overlapping Mattock!!

It was most noticable yesterday that we had our best attacking period in the time when Hope was out right and Helan was out left and the defenders were kept guessing.
