Drenthe v Antonio

Time will tell. Drenthe probably has the talent to surpass most in the division. Down to Gray to try and get a level of application to match.

Edited for you, and yes.

That's true we have used the Antonio money to bring in those players but I was thinking more in terms of a like for like replacement.

Secondly, should we as a club be able to sign those type of players without having to sell?

Do you think we improved the team/squad selling Antonio and bringing in Drenthe on loan?

The Antonio from two years ago.....may be not.

But you can't sit around waiting when a player plainly can't be arsed. Drenthe should be keen to impress as he won't get many more chances and with Loovens hopefully to guide him then, yes, we are improved.

The sale of Antonio was hardly the club's fault. The player decided that it would further his career if he moved to another side.

I have always been of the opinion that if ANY player, regardless of his skill, is not willing to stay with the side, it is better for both club and player to part. I would also mention that IMO I do not think that Antonio, despite odd flashes, caused us any problems that we could not deal with.

Onwards and Upwards.

Loovens is a good man and captain how he will fare as a social worker we will have to wait and see.

Liverpool knew what they were getting with Ballotelli and SG will have known what (if any) are the issues with Drenthe. Lets just wait and see what transpires.

This

For the record I think BR will get the best out of Balotelli, he seems very similar to Stuart Gray in the way he conducts himself. Stuart would not have agreed to this if he didn't think he could "tame" him. Having said that, I think there's no comparison between the two. Balotell is without doubt a complete fruit cake, Drenthe just needs pulling down a peg or two and get on with his football. Last chance saloon for this guy.

Think Loovens will do Drenthe a world of good! Drenthe has previously said that Loovens was a hero of his at Feyenord (sp) and will be good for him to have another Dutch lad in the squad to help him feel welcomed / settled. Hopefully Loovens will pull the lad into line a bit! Have a good feeling about this one... Gray has worked wonders so far with players, who's to say he won't with Drenthe?

The Antonio from two year ago, was playing at a lower level. Different ball game entirely.
