bigash_swfc
i think we wouldnt get a lot for him, hes still pretty naive as a RB, getting there though No way is Maguire and Maghoma worth £1m plus... Hutch probably not due to his injury record. Doesnt mean he isnt worth that much to us to find a replacement though Who are you? Burnley? Maguire's worth 2m to you
FlyingOwl
In today's stupid market a lot of our players would go for a million, minimum. Palmer Lees Lee Maguire Nuhiu May We would also get above 500k for Lavery, Westwood, Hutchinson, Maghoma, Madine and Mattock. People seriously under value our players. modboy
or people seriously over value their own teams players... No one knows and tbh its a pretty irrelevant conversation
FlyingOwl
Any championship player who is a regular starter won't go for less than 500k in today's market. The best players in a championship first 11 will typically go for over a million.

Suzuki_San
This is obviously not what they paid for everyone, but highlights how much their players are worth, rough maths i got it to be £28M. Um...so you didn't see the big '29,52m Market Value' on the top right of the webpage? If anyone has any info on our squad value please share. ...or 'Sheffield Wednesday' in the drop down menu? http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jumplist/startseite/verein/1035

FlyingOwl
wernt lees a regular at leeds and he went for nowt ...... No fee involved but we paid up his contract. He wanted to leave and Leeds didn't want him. Him and Pearce never really formed a compatible partnership, and Lees was the one who bit the dust. But, for example, say Lees and Loovens continue with this solid looking partnership and in January Derby come knocking. It would take a minimum of £1million to tempt us into selling for sure, probably more. It's not just about what a player is worth individually, but also about the effect a players departure would have on the team. If Lees was to leave, we'd look un-workable defensively so would need a fair bit of money to replace him. Same could be said for Maguire, Lee, Hutchinson, Palmer, Nuhiu etc. Edited August 29, 2014 by FlyingOwl

Lord Snooty
It's always been the case that a player is worth what a club is willing to pay. However in recent years more and more every individual transfer stands on its own. The cuts that agents take. The wages. etc etc. The fees themselves have become almost secondary to the deals. For those and no doubt many more reasons the days of "Shearer went for £3.5m so Hirst is worth £4m" are gone. Which is why Ross McCoarmack can move for £11m and Xabi Alonso can move for £2m. FlyingOwl
im sorry Hutchinson would not fetch 1m !!!! he has a chronic knee condition and is at Wednesday for that reason! If a team wanted to buy him in January we'd ask for £1.5million, minimum. It's not about the player all the time. It's about the players worth to the team. We play our best football when Hutchinson's in the side. We'd need heavily compensating if he was sold.

Buying teams don't care how much the selling team rely on a player though. If they know you have a debt or are struggling for money they don't give you the full value just because they know how useful he is to you. Undoubtedly we play better with Hutchinson and his value to us is huge , no one would pay a 'fee' for him.

Undoubtedly we play better with Hutchinson and his value to us is huge , no one would pay a 'fee' for him. But if a buying team wants a player, then most will pay whatever it takes. If someone bid £250-500k for Hutchinson, we wouldn't accept it. Why? Because we wouldn't be able to replace him with that fee...and we don't HAVE to accept it. If the team isn't willing to up their price, then he doesn't get sold. We're not in such a position where we can't haggle with teams over our players prices. We're not in debt. We're not struggling in the league. So a team may not care about how we rely on the player, but that doesn't mean we would accept a teams first offer. Forest may have bid a couple of times for Antonio before our 'minimum' valuation was met. I still felt we could have asked more and Forest would have paid it. But yeah, in today's market, no first 11 championship player will go for less than £1m...really. We had Leeds' pants down for Tom Lees, they're the exception. But their chairman is nuts. Ronio
We value our own players way too low imo. The money being thrown about these days has taken a new level and will only get even higher as time goes on. Its about time we start to play the game as well. We should be putting higher price tags on our players.

If, for example, Spurs came in for Kieran Lee and offered £500k and we said it had to be £5m then that doesn't mean they'll budge. They might approach Lee's agent and say. "100k extra in it for you if you get it done." The agent might then go to the player and say "you're on 5k a week here. At Spurs you can get £40k a week. It''s a no brainer" Then the agent might come back to Wednesday and say "If he turns down a move to the Premier League, he is going to need to be you top earner to show how much you love him. He's going to need a new 5 year contract (even though he signed one 2 months ago) But this one is going to have to be nearer £30k a week. But we can't afford that!! Then the agent is in the papers. "His head isn't right." He picks up mysterious knocks and can't play. Before you know it he's off for an improved offer of £750k. And the truth is, that there is very little you can do about it. All the bargaining tools now lay with the players. If you think the selling clubs have any real power in player sales. (especially ones not in the top division) then fair play to you. But in my experience those days are long, long gone. Also don't think every first division player in a first XI is worth £1m. And neither do many of the clubs or their Chief execs. and Chairman, explaining why 90% of transfers are 'undisclosed' , because Chairman don't want fans to know how little they are selling their favourite players for.
