KivoOwl Posted August 7, 2014 Share Posted August 7, 2014 Last year Wednesday lost one of its biggest fans when Kevin Wright, in Portugal to watch the Owls, died after suffering a heart attack. Before the summer was out, Owlstalk and OwlsOnline had raised over £400 for the British Heart Foundation (as requested Kevin's family) by completing an 11-a-side football tournament, hot on the heels of the successful 7-a-side versions organised by Bez which raised money for the Sheffield Childrens Hospital. This year we're wanting to raise a bit more, so I'm looking at getting four teams involved - with two semi-finals on one day and the two winners meeting in a final a couple of weeks later. I have booked the Leonard Kyte Recreation Ground in Aston as the venue for the semi-finals - Kevin was from Aston and we played there last year. The date set aside is Sunday 31st August, with one game kicking off at 1pm and the next at 3pm. Aston-cum-Aughton Council have let us use the venue free of charge, which allows us to raise more money for charity. Two teams are already well on their way to confirming their place at the tournament - AFC Owlstalk and reigning champions OwlsOnline - and Kevin Wright's son Ryan, who played in the tournament last year, is on the case to fill 7 or 8 of the places for a third team. Now the door is being opened to other Owlstalkers to get involved. There are 22 spaces available to play, with each person paying £5 for the honour. There are squads of 15 and every player must play some part in the game. Players that played in this years 7-a-side tournament will have priority to play - they have one week (up to 15th August) to claim their place in Team 3 or Team 4 before the doors are opened for all other people to enter. If you want to play let me know (and whether you want to be in Team 3 or 4) in this thread. Once we're nearing complete squads I'll start asking for payments, via PayPal.
