jeffers9
According to the Sun we have struck a £700,000 deal to sign Tardieu. Is he the creative fair we need? Is there any truth in this or is it an old story doing the rounds from a couple of weeks ago? When did we last spend £700,000 on a player?

Guest Harry Coy
Presumed he was a free signing when we first heard about him. Now I'm expecting him to be the next Xavi knowing we're actually paying for someone.

Beholder
If he were in an English league you could double or triple that figure. He must be pretty good. (If the figure is correct)
Guest wilyfox
700k sounds a bit strong for me, considering where he's come from. Istres are now a Ligue 3 club with an average attendance of 2300. This could be a daunting step up for the boy in a foreign land.

Agree with that, 700k if true is a lot of money for an umproven championship player and a player whose current team have just gone down to ligue 3. I would much rather us spend 700k on a current championship midfielder of decent quality. Yes he may turn out to be a great addition but it's a risk
gurujuan
Most of us thought he was being brought in as the ball winner, seems not He would be competing for Lee's place in the starting line up

You won't get a 'decent' English/Championship player for that money. The players are overpriced here.
Dagmeister
If we're paying that sort of money for him then our scouts/Gray must really rate him as a very good prospect/acquisition.
beloved_aunt
That's a lot of money to be fair. It'll never be £700k up front, that will just be the highest potential value of the transfer. It'll be like £300k up front, £200k if we are promoted, £200k if he plays more than 30 games, etc etc Most of us thought he was being brought in as the ball winner, seems not He would be competing for Lee's place in the starting line up Not really. If we play three in the middle (as we usually did away from home last season) you've got Semedo/Hutch to hold, Lee to be the energetic box-to-box player and this lad to get his foot on the ball and spray the passes knowing the other two have got him covered. db_leeds_owl
Was the last player we signed from the French lower leagues, Bougherra? Admittedly he had half a season at (relegated) Crewe but he worked out ok for the short time he was with us
IstillhateSteveBould
Could have got Conor Coady for a similar price. Not played at championship level yet but he wouldn't need time to adapt to English football at least. I think he could be a perfect long term foil for Lee. gurujuan
French players generally represent good value for British clubs, as they adapt well to our football, especially when surrounded by a few compatriots. If he is worth £700,000 as an Istres player, then he would have cost a lot more were we signing him from a championship rival. Get a few more French speakers in and he'll do well
