beloved_aunt
What kind of formation and style would you like to see us adopt next season? Personally I'd like to see us try to dominate possession and play and adventurous 4-3-3 formation, and I think with a few likely additions in the coming weeks we're getting the squad to play this way. Back four We have four full backs who are all comfortable going forward and create chances. You get the best out of overlapping full backs when your wide forwards cut inside, so a 4-3-3 would suit them. We will sign another CB or two and Loovens is class and comfortable on the ball, so should certainly be able to play from the back. Defensive Midfield Hutchinson and Semedo both well capable of doing the holding role in front of the back four. When you don't ask them to do much else than this they are very effective. Centre Midfield Sounds like this French lad we're after is a playmaker, which we desperately need IMO. I would also like us to go for Collinson on a free. Next to a player like this we have Lee/Coke who can provide more of the energy and box to box work to balance the midfield three. Front three Niether Maguire and Antonio are traditional wingers who just want to hug the touchline and fire in crosses. But both can be extremely effective cutting in from the flanks and shooting and running at the defence. They'd thrive on space created for them by a big target man. This would leave my team looking something like: Westwood Palmer (New) Loovens Mattock Hutchinson Lee (New) Magurie Antonio Nuhiu Looks reasonably good team for me, but also with room for upgrades if and when funds become available. beloved_aunt
Overlapping full backs and you'd play Mattock instead of Helan? When he was at Brighton Mattock was a star defender at getting forward. I reckon given special licence in this role he could be again.
mike312
For me, start off 4-2-3-1. Either Keeper Palmer/Buxton Loovens Other Helan Lee Hutch Antonio Macguire Mags Nuhiu This can alter to 4-4-2 if needs be with Lee or Hutch going further forward. Also 4-5-1- when we are defending. This is with the players we have now.

Guest Kagoshimaowl
It will be 4-2-3-1...defensive away from home and a straight 4-4-2 at home.
wrexhamowl
Mattocks poo going forward. Also wouldn't start Antonio, far too inconsistent.

Would play this home and away. 4-4-2 is not a more attacking option if 4-2-3-1 employed correctly.

Yep, that seems to be Gray's way and I have no problem with that. As long as we have the squad to bring players off the bench when we need to alter things, I can't see it being an issue. I don't expect we'll see any more unusual 3-5-2 type formations.

OasisOwl72
A few more signings in the right areas and we should have a decent line up with some real choices to make which is always a good sign. If one of those signings isn't a left back the easiest choices is playing Helan over Mattock which others have rightly stated. I'm also hoping Flora has toughened up in the last 12 months because technically he isn't too bad. If he has, and its a big if, he would be my second choice. As it stands any pairing of Lee/Hutch/Semedo is a decent base for the four in front whichever combo that may be.
