Dagmeister
I like Waddle. Both as a pundit and an ex player. He certainly still has some passion for the game - and, clearly though his media work, contacts and knowledge. He still lives in Sheffield, I believe? Would he be any good as a manager? How do you pick a 'dead cert' manager? I have no idea - and neither have any of you. Agree with this which makes it more sensible IMO to stick with someone who has already proved his worth in adverse conditions rather than jumping into the unknown. I don't want to risk tarnishing the memories either.
Dagmeister
It sounded more like a director of football role between the clubs. Waddle is one of a few. Yes I could see this working as a figurehead and facilitator.
Woodseats Owl
Just get Chris Waddle to teach Antonio how to control and cross the football.
Guest wilyfox
Waddle as manager? Give over. More likely to oust Antonio on the wing.
Dagmeister
Waddle as manager? Give over. More likely to oust Antonio on the wing. Or as has been suggested; teach him how to use his head a bit more and how to deliver dangerous crosses and maximise his talent.
Beatpusher
Director of Football surely?
PeteG_1984
Could have been a decent manager but tainted his career early doors with a very poor Burnley side. Might have faired better with a higher team. Should have been given that opportunity with us instead of Paul Jewell in 2000. However , way too much of a risk now. I'd have him back as a coach, Director of Football or some kind of ambassador but not manager.
themaskedowl
Waddle would be more of a Head Coach than a manager...... I don't get the negative reactions. As i said else where When he "Managed" burnley, i had a mate who was a season ticket holder at the time. He said the style of football was far beyond the players they had and was awsome to watch. they just didn't have enough good players to implement Waddles style. Hes hardly failed anywhere. Waddle has applied for the SWFC managers job every time its come up apparently. Still very famous across europe. Would be a huge draw for players as well. I did notice that and it's interesting. Time will tell I guess, we haven't even received "officialised" notification of the takeover yet.
ReadingOwl
Write a player off, before he's even kicked a ball? Write a coach/manager off before he's even appointed? It's the Owlstalk way I'm afraid. Personally, I'd be very surprised if Waddle would forgo his media activities to get involved in football permanently again. But if he did, who is to know that he wouldn't be a success? IMO football management is a lottery - not a science.
cowl
Surely the French are just putting two and two together. There can't be any other players that immediately spring to their mind when they think of Sheffield Wednesday other than Blondeau and perhaps Cantona. Sonny
I would prefer it if we got someone in who's already proven that they know what they're doing.
