wharncliffeowl
While ever this is a bookable offence, I would fine any player who did it. Maguire was booked so early in the game for it that it could have seen him sent off for a silly second booking. Players know the rules. Sentimental messages on T shirts should be banned by SG as it's getting a bit OTT now.

wharncliffeowl
I do think it's a petty harsh rule etc but if it gets an automatic yellow then it could be costly, if only by virtue of it contributing to a ban later re the number of yellows picked up. I just don't think it's something a professional player should be doing knowing a yellow card is automatically dished out.
Guest mrbluesky
Why don`t they just lift there shirt up?? Shirley he would`nt get booked.
bigdan2003
Stupid rule....i can understand why players want to do it, but it's risky to allow players to do it. Maguire could have quite easily got sent off today, he was very lucky to escape a booking when he cracked that player in the face.
wednesdaywizard
Why don`t they just lift there shirt up?? Shirley he would`nt get booked. I wondered about that earlier as well. Is the booking for the removal of the shirt or the displaying of the message? Edited April 21, 2014 by wednesdaywizard
andrewowl
on the up side all our players could take their shirts off after getting a goal the tally of yellows still wouldn't be enough for a suspension this season

dumboldowl
The most ridiculous rule in football. I agree. What is even more ridiculous is the fact that they are all aware of the penalty but still do it. The club should fine them.

Nice of you to dedicate your goal to your nan who sadly passed but here's your fine. Get real.

Groundhopping Owl
Rather than penalising the players for showing a bit of emotion every now and then why don't the clubs do something about it, let's face it they carry so much clout nowadays they could probably do something. I agree that it's a ridiculous rule though, showing sentimental messages reminds us all that there is life outside football, otherwise the FA might as well fine us for displaying a tribute to johnny eales on the scoreboard. Would be nice to see something pro-active from the clubs, it's hardly an integral rule to the game is it?
PeteG_1984
How about the FA abolish the pathetic rule that has no reasoning other than pressure from sponsors?
burncrossowl
I'm sure it's only a yellow if the shirt goes over your head and not if you just lift it up to your chin to show the message underneath.
