Well done Wednesday.

Sheffield Wednesday are proud to launch a unique partnership in memory of late soldier, Fusilier Lee Rigby.

The affiliation, ‘Team Lee Rigby United Forces’, will offer help and support emotionally, socially and financially to Armed Forces’ families who have suffered bereavement.

In addition, it will aid the millions who have served or are currently serving in the Forces and their dependents.

Lee’s mother Lyn Rigby and her family will be special guests of the club for the Easter Monday home game against Charlton Athletic.

Lyn will be conducting the half time 50/50 draw and will be joined on the pitch by another VIP for the day, Paralympic Team GB skier and lifelong Wednesdayite Mick Brennan.

Mick is an ex-military sergeant in the bomb disposal team serving in Iraq and tragically lost both lower parts of his legs in action. He will join Lyn at Hillsborough to show his support for Team Lee.

To mark this ground breaking partnership, the Owls will shortly be selling custom-made Team Lee wristbands, with all proceeds going to the organisation.

Sheffield-based promotional gifts supplier, Steel City Marketing, have produced and donated 5,000 wristbands.

Spencer Taylor, CSR Manager at Sheffield Wednesday, said: “It is a great honour to announce the partnership with Lyn for Team Lee and we are delighted the club are showing its support.

“We hope that Wednesday fans show their support by wearing the Team Lee wristbands and back this fantastic cause moving forward.

“Many families, like Lee’s, are left to deal with the aftermath of conflict and this partnership will offer emotional and financial support to those who need it most.”

Lyn Rigby added: “It’s so good to have support from a club like Sheffield Wednesday as they care so much about charitable causes.

“I was told of the incredible unity shown by Wednesday fans and Glasgow Rangers fans in Lee’s memory when they met at Hillsborough last summer and I was completely overwhelmed.

“Everyone at the club has made us feel so welcome, which has been so touching for all the family.

“Sheffield Wednesday will help drive Lee’s memory in a positive way and ensure his legacy is long-lasting.

“Lee loved his football so it seems perfectly fitting to honour his memory in this way.”

*The Team Lee wristbands will be on sale shortly in the Owls Megastore.

Great gesture.

What's with the sudden link to Lee Rigby though, don't want to sound ungrateful or anything because I'm not, but he didn't support us or owt so why is his mum doing the 50/50 drawer etc...?

I asked that question in another, much to the annoyance of hugeowls, but now I know after reading the OP.

This is a great gesture by the club. Lynn will be joined by one of our own heroes, Mick Brennan. Mick is a Wednesdayite who lost both legs courtesy of a suicide bomber in Iraq. He's since rebuilt his life and has just returned from the Paralympics where he secured two top 10 finishes and a top15 finish. Put your hands together for the guys who protect us. One won't be there on the day, one will be......just!

A good cause but "true hero"?

Do those two words really matter in the grand scheme of everything that has happened to Lee and his family?

Why would that irk you, other than to try and be a clever arse on here.

Pathetic post.

The bit where Lee's mum mentions our game with Rangers I think

Oh right.

To my knowledge it was a Rangers flag which was paraded round, and them singing ONE LEE RIGBY, we just joined in.

I'm not knocking having her here at all, just don't see the connection.

Can you share the Knowledge then mate, I've read the OP and still have no idea ?

It was his love for football, it's not just Wednesday that are doing it, the charity that has been set up in his name is amazing and will help so many, you must admit this incident gripped the nation and opened a lot of people eyes to the coward lizards we deal with daily. It's amazing to see Wednesday and other clubs help get this charity going. Proud to be Wednesday
