TaxiMark
Currently we have scored more goals then QPR, Wigan and Brighton who are all sitting 4th 5th and 6th in the play-offs , we've also scored the same amount at Blackburn who spent 7m quid on one player to bang them in as well, with all of this taken on board it's been a fantastic team effort, if we could just sort the other end out we'd be right up there! The Stannington Owl
Agree, the defence is desperate for restructure for next season, Loovens and Gooch are leaving, which leaves us with Llera, Zayatte and Taylor who are not good enough and Gardner who may never be the same again after this latest injury. If Gooch and Loovens can be snapped up over the summer and we can get in another 2 decent centre halfs for back up, we should be fine for next season. Thom
The last three games sum up the point of this thread perfectly... you would expect from scoring 10 goals in three games that you'd be taking 9 points from 9 but not being tight enough has meant it has only been 5. The defensive injury worries we've had throughout the season should be acknowledged though.
FlyingOwl
A more consistent striker and a fitter defence could see us really push on. We don't even need a 20 goal a season guy, just someone to hit over double figures
McRightSide
Its clear we have some issues defensively, and most of these have been caused via the inability to keep a settled back four. For me, we have to be looking to recruit capable players capable for playing 40 games in a season, otherwise we will end up with the same problems again. That's why I think Loovens and Gooch is a bridge too far. I'd rather we kept one and used the savings from the other, plus Gardner, Taylor, Llera, Prutton towards getting Roger Johnson here full-time Reda would get another year, might sound like a little bit of a contradiction and it probably is - but given his age and the fact that we have rushed him back several times out of necessity (something we now don't need to do) I'm confident he can put the injuries behind him. Plus he's talismanic for us.

BRADDAZ
This. QPR's top scorer has 14, Brighton and Reading's 13 and Wigan''s 7... doesn't need a prolific striker to have you battling for playoffs if the defence is settled and there's a bit of quality in midfield I love mentioning the fact Hull & Cardiff both won automatic promotion without a single players getting into double figures last year in the league. Kind of blows the myth out of the water you NEED this "20 goal a season" striker. Don't get me wrong, a "20 goal a season" striker would be nice, but it doesn't and won't guarantee we're challenging for play off spots come this time next season. Leeds have a 20 goals a season striker and they sit below us for example. Football is very much a team game. I'd rather we develop a squad with good players in most positions, rather than blow the majority of our budget on this "20 goal a season" outstanding striker and neglecting other just as important key areas of the team. Eaton_Swfc
Nuhiu has got 7 in his first season in English football, so you'd expect more next year. Maguire has got 8 having only played half a season. Antonio has been injured half the season and always contributes goals. With the signing of another striker we could easily have a push next season if we tighten up at the back.
Freshfish
Would like to see Loovens, Gardner and Buxton as CB's with Palmer and Helan/Mattock as FB's and maybe one other if possible. A settled back four that is 'ours'. Bring in a really strong midfield 'General' and nail down a decent striker that's our own. Fryatt would be ideal. We have goals coming from so many different places and that's what other teams hate to play against. We could minimise initial 'loan' numbers and enables us to use loans to supplement any development and not become loans we 'hope' are going to be 'the answer'. There's no way we should be keeping Gardner at his age and with his injury record, but I agree with everything else. If we can re-sign Loovens and someone decent alongside him, a quality midfielder and a striker with a reliable 10-15 goals a season record then I don't think we'd be far away from play-0ffs and it wouldn't cost the earth. Sounds simple don't it
