Juror8
I know their times overlapped but I'm not sure if Jones was the manager to take him to The Dell. Does anyone's memory stretch that far back or has the connection been mentioned since DJ joined us? If is the case, shows he knows a striker. Obviously, didn't take much to see that with Hirst. The gamble didn't really work out, but was worth the risk, in case Hirst did have a successful twilight period to his career. Can't read too much into it with it being 15 years ago, but shows DJ is prepared to take a risk. Another thing I thought interesting from that period was, the signing of Marian Pahars. When he was interviewed whilst Wednesday manager, he talked about the signing. Said another player in Latvia had been recommended but when going to see him, he noticed Pahars. Said the other player was recommended by a contact. He made out it was 'his' contact rather than a club affiliated scout, and think he made a point of mentioning he had a lot of contacts. Seeing as this was during an early stage of his career, you'd expect the network has only grown. The signing of an unknown Pahars and brining Glen Loovens to this country for the first time, suggests DJ might bring a broader outlook to our transfer policy. Sure if track back through his record there'll be similar signings. Wouldn't be surprised to see a few unknowns to the club over the summer. Hopefully, they'll be more Pahars than Uchechi. Guest S17-Owl
From Wiki His exit from the Owls came on 17 October 1997, when Southampton manager Dave Jones paid a club record £2million for his services
Juror8
Just looking at other signings from his past, bit of business like Dean Richards on a free and then being sold for £8.1m would be nice.

Ian_D
just before we signed DJ, all I remembered about him was from his time at Cardif. I later wiki-ed him and read about his time at Southampton, it all came back to me then, a top top manager who left due to some court case that he eventually won. We are really fortunate to have this guy as our manager and I feel good times at S6 are back from now on.
Guest phshaw
Yes DJ signed Hirsty and Hirsty speaks very highly of Dave Jones. DH regards Dave Jones as a nice bloke who is a good man manager.
nebneeb
Like to se a full list of DJs signing over his managerial career there will have been the odd f##k up but by and large it would be a very healthy success rate i would assume. To add to that would be interesting to see the net balance from transfers from fees spent and received. I imagine it would be fairly healthy. Selling individual players for large fees, reinvesting in several players to develop, etc. Similar to Newcastle in the last couple of years. Can't think of any managers who don't have the odd f*ck up. Seems like getting 3 out of 4 decent players is pretty good in todays market
