I remember that overhead kick at Newcastle to give us a 1-0 win, late in the game in front of us travelling fans we were ecstatic.

Was just going to post the same.

I got hit on the head with a coin from the upper section on the right-hand side just after.

2p coin the cheapskates.......

i remember him playing bryan robson off the park the first time we played man utd back in the first division at hillsborough.

as other playes are, he will be fondly remembered for one main thing (newcastle overhead kick 1984) but he was the most underrated player i have seen at hillsborough. just got on with the job, no fuss, no stealing the limelight. you always knew he would give 100% and would get stuck in to anybody when needed. i would love us to find another gary shelton now, maybe semedo will become the next hard tacking, hard woking midfileder that we have been missing for so long.

My sister used to baby sit for his kids and he used to go into my mum and dads shop. was very freindly and used to get me signed progammes and other stuff. especially remember the signed progamme when we played liverpool in the milk cup at hillsborough. my favourite playing memory was when he scored at anfield in a 2-0 win and i know it was for him cos he had a massive picture of the said goal in his house. could do with a player of his stature in midfield now

Gary Shelton was a hero to many lads my age when growing up

What memories do people have of him playing as memories of him are sketchy in my alcohol riddled brain..

I remember after he left and came back with Oxford. At the end the whole ground rose to cheer him off - brought a tear to my eye. One of my favourite ever players - imagine Semedo on a good day and then multiply by three or four.

Guest one gary shelton

Quite clear when Walsall gave him his debut at just 16 he was destined to have a good career. It was a pleasure to have him at my club as a teenager showing up opponents in their 30's. A terrific player.

A very under rated player.

If only DJ could have got Shelton or a player like him in the summer or just before the loan window shut.

He'd still have a chance of saving his job. If we had him now or a player like him, we would never go down.

There are no players like him about now though.

One of the best midfield generals we've ever had.

Great photo, how classy does that kit look compared with the modern travesty's?
