Awesome tonight, never stopped running, never stopped tackling. He and Prutton were head and shoulders above everyone else. I thought Semedo just shaded the man of the Match, but Prutton was awesome too. Reda, Bennett, Buxton, and JJ all had excellent games.

The triallist impressed me with his willingness to get behind the back four, and he was unlucky not to score.

The midfield is so important in football and we haven't really had one for some time. Its exciting to now have player that won't let the ball just keep coming back at us all the bloody time.

Its a real luxury to have been able to buy players or prise away quality players on free transfers this summer.... we will notice the difference imo.

Semedo must have won the Charlton player of the year for a reason, despite what that one Charlton fan was trying to tell us. They can't have wanted him to go.

Prutton outshone Semedo tonight.

But that's not saying Semedo had a bad game, because he didn't. Just that Prutton was excellent.

Some of Semedo's ball play was a litle sloppy, but his work rate, tackling and reading of the game was very very good.

Bloody excellent business by Megson to bring in both Semedo and Prutton. Just what we needed.

Were you watching the same game as me? Prutton was immense, i would be amazed if any more than 10% of semedo's passes were successful, however im sure he will come good.

I never said he wasn't. But I cannot remember the last time we had a player like Semedo, he's our Michael Essien. I don't think that it was any coincidence that once he was replaced by the shadow chaser, Rotherham started getting into the game

Yeah I accept that, his passing wasn't always the best, but he's been brought in to protect the back four, get tackles in, break attacks up, and I thought he did this has good as anyone.

I noticed that too, but I was going to give him the benefit of the doubt that the team in general dropped off as we were in the last few minutes and we were winning the game at a canter.

Don't like criticising players like O'Connor who put the effort in, but it's clear to see that Semedo is a vast improvement. I'd try to compare Prutton to Potter but I wouldn't be able to stop laughing.

Agree with that mate.

Tonight he did exactly what I expected him to do. Tackles, work rate, interceptions, breaking play up, positional sense, good reading of the game.

Just what we've need and looks an outstanding free transfer.

I said to my son on our way home, "I can't wait til we play MK Dons, with Prutton and Semedo snapping at Potter" My son thinks that when we play them, Potter will suddenly discover how to take a free-kick.

Seems like nothing is going to get through our midfield next season, Semedo and Prutton both seem absolutely quality.

Add a bit of creativity in there and we'll have the best midfield in the league, and the fittest.

Semedo was the transfer I wanted the most. Me and Dronny Owl were drooling over him when Charlton came to Hillsborough last season, he was here, there and everywhere, head and shoulders above anyone else in that game.

Similarly, we were impressed with Prutton when Swindon played at hillsborough, whenever he was on the ball, we couldn't get it off him. Great piece of business by Megson bringing both of them in.

Guest PAUL.

Has anyone on here ever seen JJ put the effort into a game like he did last night? cos I haven't.

I know it's only early days, but if Megson has found out how to get inside JJ's head, he could be awesome for us this coming season.

Semedo must have won the Charlton player of the year for a reason, despite what that one Charlton fan was trying to tell us. They can't have wanted him to go.

Semedo won the player of the year mostly because Johnnie Jackson was injured for most of the second half of the season. Johnny was walking it by a country mile. Unfortunately once Jackson was crocked, and the fact that Wright-Phillips only played half a season, there wasn't anybody else that could have taken the award other than Semedo.

I know you guys want Semedo to be the answer to all of your prayers but I think you'll be disappointed. I'm not saying that Semedo wasn't liked at Charlton, clearly he was, but his play was very limiting.

I have no idea what formation you'll be playing, but if Semedo is in a midfield five where he can literally just sit in front of the back four to break up attacks for you, then he will do well. The issue is however that in a 4 man midfield he is very limited. The problem is that he is really a centre back. It was Pardew that moved him up to midfield, it wasn't a position he had played before. His tackling is great, his workrate is second to none, but his passing is typical of a centre back of his type. In terms of vision, there isn't any. He looks for the simple pass always, either square or back and unfortunately his passes have been known to fall short regularly. In a four man midfield you need players who can do more than just break up attacks. You need to turn defence into attack, quickly. Semedo doesn't do this unfortunately, it was probably the most frustrating part of his play. He also offers nothing in terms of attack. You can count on one-hand how many times he crosses the halfway line in a match. As I said, if Megson has bought him specifically to protect the defence then that's fine, but if you need to make formation changes in a match and switch to a four, Semedo's limited playstyle will show itself.

I've no axe to grind, I liked Jose, how could you not like a player that dies for your cause? But last season Semedo was a major part of what was wrong in our side. Ultimately though, he will give everything, he will throw himself into tackles (he will miss some important ones too however) expect a few cards, red and yellow as it's the nature of his play, but don't expect him to play outside of his mould. He wont. He can't.

I would have liked to keep him to put him as centre back for this coming season. But I would definitely not given him another season in midfield. I hope he does well for you, but we have better midfielders now, we don't need him in that position anymore.

Any questions on him, feel free to ask, I'll answer what I can.

Mate, our midfielders last few years haven't been much use either defensively or offensively - if Semedo can only do one that's still a vast improvement. Early doors yet, but looks like Prutton is intended to be the ball player alongside him (though he's also able to tackle, hurrah for not having to carry passengers in the middle!).

Need to see who else we bring in, but looking like Megson wants to be able to switch between 4-4-2 and 4-2-3-1, with Semedo & Prutton allowing wingers and full backs to push on.

So, Semedo seems to be exactly what we needed imo.

Fan in saying that player isn't very good after he leaves shocker.

4-2-3-1 you'll be fine.
