Jermaine Johnson

Recommended Posts

A lot of people love Jermaine Johnson. Others find him at times inspirational, a match winner but often frustrating.

He can be a great player at times and we have had constant debates regarding his overall play and his often terrible end product.

Now before the fan boys start screaming at their computers and bashing the keyboard this isn't an overall dig at JJ. I was watching him for quite a while yesterday and I'm going to come from a complete different angle with regards his abysmal performance yesterday.

This season JJ has been played out wide, he has been played up front (as a lone striker too IIRC) and recently Alan Irvine has seemingly moved him into what looks like a free role just behind the strikers in central midfield.

At the end of the day, Johnson has played most of his career as a winger. That his is trade and that is where he should be played. Now this is a complete guess, but it looked to me yesterday that he didnt know where to play or even what to do. At times he was out wide and at other times he was wandering round the middle of the park. When MK broke yesterday he didnt look like he knew whether to hold his position or whether to track back and defend. When we had the ball in defence the players where shouting at him to move and make space. Again, he didnt look like he knew whether to make space out wide or through the middle. When we were attacking the Kop end (I think it was Jones who had the ball) gestured for JJ to make space. JJ moved to a position where Jones could have walked with the ball himself.

Second half and they had a corner. JJ was wandering round the edge of the box. gary megson had to shout at him to get him to move into a more sensible position.

IMHO JJ has had his head filled with that much crap that he doesnt know if he is coming or going. I really hope that he isn't broken for good, because with a bit or work on his delivery he would be lethal.

Please Mr Megson, fix him, we have the technology.

I'll cry if he gets a new contract at the end of the season.

Having a good 20 minute spell once every 5 games is not good enough.

I think with the right manager and some confidence he can be outstanding week in week out.He has obviously got the ability someone just needs to work with him closely to get the best out of him lol lol lol

He was very poor, and has been for evry game he has actually been fit enough to play in which is not many, just watched him for 10 minutes yesterday instead of the ball and in that time he just stood with hands on hips, not making himself available, ceating space for others etc, basically did jack s**t.

A couple of 20 second bursts per game and the odd goal seem to be his contribution this season and unless the new manger can bring that bit more effort out to compliment his Talent i can see nothing but a parting of the ways in the Summer.

Must add though, this is one of them times i really hope the exact opposite of what i expect actually happens. get your head up JJ and put the effort in for more than a few minutes.

He's the only player we have with pace.

Why on earth would we want to get rid of him ?

I would imagine that this statement forms part of JJ's thinking.

He has no challenge in the pace department from within the rest of the squad and seems to be a "do just enough" type of player.

A massive kick up the arse is required.

Shape up or wee wee off............same for a few others.

Makes me laugh when people say he hasn't done anything, he has 2 goals in the last three games and he tore peterborough to shreds in the first half the other night

Play him as a winger, and keep him there.

Get him and Teale to keep switching wings.

As he said

Its so fkin simple - He is a winger so play him on the wing .. . . . . . Give him the ball, one on one and he beats most at this level.

Not rocket science is it lads!

WTID

How is he an out and out winger? He almost never beats the full back on the outside and when he does this vvvvvvvv happens. worse on crosses than dracula.

It's no good tearing past fullbacks when the final ball ends halfway up Penistone Road. Someone needs t teach jj to cross a ball.

JJ's an impact player, he frightens the opposition to death with his pace...sure he can drift in and out of games and is temperamental, but he scores goals and ties up other teams players by them usually putting 2 on him, this should create space for others in the team but we lack the ability to take advantage...Who else in the team is capable of scoring goals like the one he got against Hereford last week?

I will admit he frustrates the **** outta me at times, but whilever he is on the pitch he is likely to do something out of the ordinary...we don't have anyone else who can do that

JJ needs to play up against their last man IMO and scare the poo out of them .... you can guarantee by doing this they will double mark him thus making space somewhere else .

Whether GM will play him that way or at all we will have to wait and see ,

He's our most dangerous player, bar none.

True he can be selfish and inconsistent, but we're much better with him than without him.

As a man of stats Kivo i guess you have some that back this claim up ?, or is it just a personal view point ?.
