Paul..
Legend as a player, comes across a smidge bitter at times in commentary (not least when Beckham got his 100th cap).
Guest Woz1867
Fair comment, though he will always be remembered by US for what he did at Wednesday!

nevthelodgemoorowl
I remember him more for what he did for the BLUNTS and WHU than what he did for us ...............If ever there were 2 games in which one man totally dominated proceedings I haven't seen it. " Never in the History of football conflict as so much been owed by so many to one man" That man was Chrissy Waddle, Hero and Legend as and adopted (Geordie) Sheffielder, I don't think the freedom of the City would be out of place. Maybe a statue at the Lane as they seem so fond of adopting our heroes ! Edited September 24, 2010 by nevthelodgemoorowl

33
That WHU game is without a doubt the most emphatic display by a single player that I have ever witnessed. Always said that performance was worth my ST money alone. SUBLIME
Neal M
I know the FA Hall of Fame is a crappy, American-ized, white elephant. But it exists and it's an absolute outrage that Waddle isn't in there. We need to start a campaign to get him in. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_Football_Hall_of_Fame I move a lot of concrete on the QVC.
sheriwozgod
Absolute f@ckin legend and feel sorry for any Wednesday fan too young to have seen him in the blue and white. However i think Grimbarian is being kind when he says he comes across as a smidge bitter as a pundit............................................................he actually comes across as a downright miserable bugger. I was driving back late from somewhere one friday night listening to five live and they were talking to the Waddler who was somewhere in europe on the eve of an England international. The guys in the studio were trying to get news and some insight from him ahead of the game and his monosyllabic answers and lack of enthusism were appalling. He only perked up a little when Colin Murray half jokingly and half seriously told him that if getting paid to travel abroad and watch his country was too much of a chore then there would be a queue of thousands willing to take his place. Thankfully us Owls have got the tapes and memories of him in his prime doing the day job!!!

pgmetcalf
Waddle was is a team that knew how make spaces to receive a pass and when to close down play. I always remember Lawrenson saying on MOTD, what a player, they just can't take the ball off him.
themaskedowl
We wasnt that creative back then without Waddle tbh It was a case of give the ball to Waddle let's watch him play maybe, maybe not but we sure as hell played extremely attractive passing football all over the park. At the time we looked like Brasil compared to other teams in the Prem.
