jonnyowl
Now I didn't think that the stick that Buxton gets on here was totally fair, but after today's performance he's useless, can tackle, poor positioning, no awereness and how shocking his is passing! On another note I Didn't think that Beevers and Spurr were that much better, especially Spurr, clearly doesn't know what to do when the ball is played long his direction! And non of the defence can pass and that was the cause of our problems today, the defence with aimless long balls just giving it back to Dagenham! NormOwl
i don't normally knock the players but buxton's passing game both selection and application was very poor today.
Beholder
Wtf are you on about? Our defence were far too strong for them. stronger, quicker, cleverer...each and every one of them. And Buxton was fine aswell. You can't expect teams not to attack us. They got their fair share of the ball but everything for they threw at us they barely had a shot on target. So what's the problem? Didn't look a slouch then... I thought he played pretty well today. Some players are still getting judged on the past imo.

They can't pass giving the ball away too often that creates pressure! I agree with some of your points, Purse was MOM and Beevers was much better in the second half, but even Irvine said they were giving us problems down our left! As for Buxton I thought he was very poor in the second half, Purse had to cover him loads! A better side might have opend us up, Brighton will be a much stronger test, they play nice football under Poyet!
Owls2k
Can't stand him but I thought he was very good today. Especially in the first half. Chasing a ball down over 50 yards and won a corner at the Kop end summed up his game today. Edited August 7, 2010 by Owls2k
TheGodfather
Buxton deserves the poor ratings today IMO Positionally poor too often, allowed himself to be second to the ball on several occasions, and his distribution was awful for most of the game (though he wasn't alone in that at the back)
rickyp
didn't think buxton or the defence in general was that bad at all today. buxton is just the next player in a long line of players that get undeserved flak
Arthur Bach
Buxton stepped up and had a solid game. Stop fookin' moaning.

Difference is I don't expect our League 1 defenders to have Gerrard's passing ability.

Guest mrbluesky
Buxton coped against a poor team, credit to him today but not good enough
Wednesday-Wonderland
what about that 130 yard dash down the line with their defender to get that long through ball and win a corner? My favourite part of the match, he was basically running straight at me so I got the best view in the house of him running like he's shat himself. Buxton = Solid but with moments of madness/shitness. You never notice him because he does his job well most of the time but every now and then he'll gift the opposition a 1 on 1 or something equally stupid. Guest aj_owl
Thought spurr looked a lot more comfortable with jones in front of him, although teale had a good game. Buxton didn't do too bad, purse was superb, beevers dodgy in the first better in the second.
Lincowl
Thought he was pretty solid and expect him to do well for us this season. Bar a poor period alongside purse last season he's been good value imo.

If you call a right back chasing a nothing ball for half the length of the pitch "doing nothing" then i'm not sure what the lad has to do for you to give him a break

Well I can only judge him on the past, how the roger can I judge him on the future? I'm entitled to my opinion of him, as you are yours thank you. He looked out of his depth last season and on today's performance he does again. His positioning and passing was well below average yet again, better teams will sus him and exploit him for the weak link he his. I'll remind you of this as the season goes on. Bluesteel
I thought Beevers and Purse did well, dominated their front two and Beevers did two quality headers in front of goal. Full backs werent great though and as a unit we were sloppy. We cant say they havent gelled as they were together last season. If we were playing a champ side we'd have been punished with some sloppy defending.
